About the album

After two standalone singles in 2023, the alt pop earworms Good Girl and Bubblegum, June Jones announces her first longer release for Chapter Music in the form of six track EP Proximity.

June is a Sydney based singer, songwriter, producer, and shapeshifter, called “the face of new Australian alt pop” by Junkee. June’s 2023 singles announced a new “horny pop” direction after her run of deep and gorgeous albums, including 2022’s Pop Music For Normal Women.

Proximity sees June detouring again, heading in a more darkly glamorous direction than the confections of Bubblegum and Good Girl.

June says “Proximity feels like the most intentional collection of music that I've made. Each song channels an aspect of myself through a persona that I only semi-consciously developed for the record. This character, a woman not unlike myself, makes music about her connections with people – romance, love, heartbreak, desire, sex, and relationships. While the lyrics on Proximity are a combination of fact and fiction, the sentiments are genuine, as are the homages to some of my favourite pop songs and artists found throughout the record. Three decades after the release of Haddaway's debut single, I am still occupied with this question: What is love? Baby don't hurt me.”

The EP includes a feature on Dog by upcoming artist Perfectworld, the new solo project of Lucy Blomkamp, who June met in Sydney last year at an APRA Pride Songhubs workshop curated by Troye Sivan.
