About the album

Melbourne exploratory art-synth performer Pikelet returns with album-length recording Tronc, released by Chapter Music on cassette and digital. Over the years Pikelet has gone through numerous permutations, all centred around the indomitable Evelyn Morris, now recognised as one of the most adventurous and compelling voices in Melbourne music. They are also one of the founders of feminist music collective Listen. Tronc follows on from full-band efforts Calluses (2013) and Stem (2010) but sees a return to the solo format of early Pikelet recordings, with each of the tape’s eight songs recorded and performed by Evelyn at home, but the wide-eyed sense of wonder found in early Pikelet recordings has been replaced by something darker and more fractured.

Songs like Interface Dystopia and The Neighbour’s Grass have a fierce beauty, but these are narratives of disillusionment, disintegration and disposession, shot through with glimpses of hope.
