About the album

Formed in Perth, Western Australia, languid and bookish guitar pop quartet Rabbits Wedding based themselves in Sydney from the mid 80s, recording two great EPs and a single for the iconic Waterfront Records. Their 1986 debut 7" Rideout, featuring backing vocals from The Lighthouse Keepers' Juliet Ward, was released by David Nichols' Distant Violins label. His band The Cannanes also released a song about their love for Rabbits Wedding on an early single for K Records.

This reissue makes their six song debut EP In Truth About Road, as well as the B-side of Rideout, availlable digitally for the first time.

Still in their late teens and early 20s when they transplanted themselves across the Nullarbor from Perth to Sydney, Rabbits Wedding had a world-weary romanticism and a lyrical insight that belied their tender years.

In 1987 they released standalone single Coming Like Summer/Mandarins, then followed up with their second EP Showtime in 1989. Soon afterwards it was the end of the road for Rabbits Wedding, but despite its slenderness their catalogue still feels rich and compelling.

Guitarist/Vocalist Paul Watling later played in Hot Water Music (not the US punk band) with Cannanes bassist Fran Bussey, and currently leads Dusken Lights. Bassist Matthew Hall spent some time in the US in the 90s playing in Squirrelgrab before heading back to Sydney to form Laverne. Drummer Philip Rawlinson played in The Honeys contemporaneously with Rabbits Wedding, and has recently been a Dusken Light also. Guitarist Richard Shallcross went on to other non-musical projects after Rabbits Wedding.
