Alex Macfarlane and Travis MacDonald joined forces over a shared obsession for bedroom recording.
Melbourne scratchy pop foursome the Stevens formed in 2011 around guitarists Alex Macfarlane (Twerps, Tyrannamen, Faceless Burial) and Castlemaine’s Travis MacDonald, and were soon joined by bassist Gus Lord (Twerps, Tyrannamen, Stroppies, Boomgates) and drummer Matt Harkin.
In 2012, Chapter Music released the band’s debut self-titled EP, six insanely catchy guitar pop songs in 13 minutes. Then in 2013 Chapter released A History Of Hygiene, the Stevens’ debut album. The album was written up by the likes of Pitchfork and the Guardian and played on BBC 6.
The Stevens toured the US in 2015, playing Gonerfest, and have supported the likes of Wire, Parquet Courts and Real Estate. Melbourne’s Tramway Hotel named a burger after the Stevens in March 2016.
The Stevens released aptly-named second album Good in 2017.
