Beginning as a cassette label in Perth, Western Australia in 1992, Chapter Music has spread its wings over the last two decades, relocating to Melbourne in 1995 and becoming one of the nation’s most enduring and respected independent labels. Releases from the likes of Twerps, Crayon Fields, Pikelet, Laura Jean and Dick Diver, and reissues from Primitive Calculators, Essendon Airport and the Can’t Stop It! compilation series, have cemented the label’s reputation for bringing Australia’s most adventurous pop, experimental and psychedelic music-makers to the world.
To celebrate our 20th birthday, and the release of double vinyl anniversary compilation 20 Big Ones, Chapter is putting on a series of parties around the nation, including panels, bands and videos at Newcastle’s Sound Summit Festival, an all day show at North Melbourne Town Hall as part of Melbourne Music Week, and a wild party in Sydney!
20 Big Ones is a lavish 20 song double vinyl album, with incredible cover art from Twerps bassist Rick Milovanovic (pictured above), featuring unreleased tracks by Twerps, Crayon Fields, Dick Diver, Pikelet, Fabulous Diamonds, Laura Jean, Minimum Chips, Small World Experience, Coolies, Primitive Calculators, Bum Creek, Kath Bloom, Sleepy Township and Hit the Jackpot, plus rare from-the-vault tracks from early Chapter artists such as Sulk, Mustang!, Molasses, Gus, Readers’ Wives and Double Chin.
